Singapore, February 8, 2024: The Singapore National Olympic Council has announced that IOC Vice President Mr. Ng Ser Miang, together with SNOC Vice President Mrs. Jessie Phua and former SNOC Vice President the late Dr Tan Eng Liang, have been inducted into the Singapore Sport Hall of Fame at an event graced by the President of the Republic of Singapore.

Eight sport figures - including three athletes and five sport leaders - were inducted into the Singapore Sport Hall of Fame at the Istana on Wednesday, February 7.

The Sport Hall of Fame celebrates the exceptional achievements and contributions of Singapore’s sporting heroes. It is the first time that sports leaders are receiving this prestigious recognition since its inception in 1985.

Guest-of-Honour Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President, Republic of Singapore, said: “Each of the eight Singaporeans inducted to the Sport Hall of Fame today have contributed greatly - and often beyond the traditional realms of athleticism - through their leadership and the way they have inspired many others. Together as One Team Singapore, let’s continue to strengthen the Singapore spirit through sport.”

In a Facebook post, Singapore NOC said: “Our heartiest congratulations to Olympians Mr. Syed Kadir (boxing), Ms. Joscelin Yeo (swimming) and Ms. Yu Mengyu (table tennis) and sports leaders the late Dr Tan Eng Liang, Mr. Ng Ser Miang, Mrs. Jessie Phua, Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang and Mr. Kenneth Kee for their induction to the Singapore Sport Hall of Fame. You are all deserving of recognition and thank you for serving the Olympic Movement.”

Singapore NOC President Grace Fu posted: “What an honour to meet the sporting heroes as they were inducted into the Singapore Sport Hall of Fame by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam!

“Sporting stars like Mr. Syed Kadir (boxing), Ms. Joscelin Yeo (swimming) and Ms. Yu Mengyu (table tennis) filled our airwaves and newspaper headlines regularly and have brought tremendous pride to Singaporeans over the decades.

“Behind the sporting stars, sports leaders like the late Dr Tan Eng Liang, Mr. Ser Miang Ng, Mrs. Jessie Phua, Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang and Mr Kenneth Kee, who have helped to develop athletes and high- performance sports in Singapore, were also recognised for their lifetime contributions.

“My heartiest congratulations once again to the sporting stars and leaders for receiving the recognition and honours, and for serving Singapore sport!”
