Doha, Qatar, February 6, 2024: Chinese divers Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan teamed up to win the gold medal in the women’s 10m platform synchro at the Hamad Aquatic Centre on Tuesday evening.
One night after Quan had won gold and Chen silver in the women’s 10m platform individual competition at the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024, the pair finished over 40 points clear of the field in the synchro.
Chen, 18, and Quan, 16, scored a total of 362.22 points from their five dives, leading from the first round to pull away convincingly.
The DPR Korea divers have impressed here and took the silver medal through Kim Mi Rae and Jo Jin Mi, who were second with a total of 320.70 - 41.52 points down on the Chinese champions.
The British team has also performed well, and they added bronze through Lois Toulson and 10m platform individual bronze medallist Andrea Spendolini Sirieix with 299.34.
Japan’s Minami Itahashi and Matsuri Arai were ninth with 270.90, Korea’s Kwon Halim and Kim Nahyun were 11th on 240.36, Malaysia’s Pandelela Rinong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri came in 12th with 240.06 and Macau’s Zhao Hang U, 14, and Lo Ka Wai, 15, were 16th on 155.88.
The victory for Chen and Quan was their third in a row in platform synchro at the world championships and the 13th consecutive gold medal for China in this event. You have to go back 26 years to the inaugural women’s 10m synchronized event at Perth 1998 to find a gold medal-winning pair that is not from China.
