World Aquatics President confident of ‘outstanding’ competitions at Doha 2024

Doha, Qatar, February 4, 2024: The President of World Aquatics, Mr. Husain Al Musallam, is confident that Doha will deliver an “outstanding” World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024.

In a welcome message in the official programme, Capt. Husain speaks of his pride that Doha is the first city in the Arab world to host the World Aquatics Championships.

“On behalf of World Aquatics, I would like to express our gratitude to the host city for sharing our passion for aquatics sports and for their willingness and flexibility in hosting our biggest event,” he said.

“Doha has a proven track record of hosting successful World Aquatics events, including the World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2014 and World Cup events in swimming, open water swimming, diving and artistic swimming.

“I am confident that Doha will deliver outstanding competitions for athletes and fans alike.”

The World Aquatics President added that, with just five months to go to the Paris Olympic Games, this will be “an incredibly important time” for athletes looking to earn qualification.

“The world-class Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Centre and the Old Doha Port are ready to welcome more than 2,600 athletes from over 190 countries and provide them with the perfect conditions to compete,” he said.

In thanking the partners, staff, officials and volunteers for all their hard work and dedication, Capt. Husain added: “I have no doubt that these World Aquatics Championships will be an historic event that will be remembered for many years to come.” 

The 21st World Aquatics Championships will run from February 2-18, with the opening ceremony set for February 4 at Aspire Dome. They will feature all six World Aquatics disciplines.
