Singapore, January 18, 2024: The Singapore National Olympic Council is mourning the passing of Olympian Ajit Singh, who died on January 16 at the age of 95.

Ajit represented Singapore at the Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games as part of the first and only hockey team to represent the Republic at the Games.

In 2019, he shared with SNOC in an interview: “Sports is the best way to keep fit, and it inculcates values and builds character.”

Grace Fu, President of the SNOC, paid tribute to the versatile athlete: “I am saddened by the passing of Mr Ajit Singh and would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to his wife Surjit and his family.

“Ajit was the quintessential sportsman of his time - he was a golfer into his 90s, played cricket, represented Singapore in hockey at the 1956 Olympic Games and competed in masters athletics races.

“He remained active in Singapore sports after his competitive sporting career and participated in many activities. He will be greatly missed.”
