Asian weightlifting championships moved from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan

Bangkok, Thailand, February 18, 2020: The Asian Weightlifting Federation has announced that the host country for the 2020 Asian Championships has been changed from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. The competition will be held from April 16-25 at Tashkent.

In an earlier statement, the International Weightlifting Federation said: “Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan has restricted all forms of passengers’ travel from and to countries neighboring China as the outbreak continues to widen.

“The AWF Executive Board discussed the situation with the utmost urgency and agreed to relocate the host country from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan.

“The Asian Championships will be held 16th – 25th April 2020 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.”
