Ramallah, Palestine, January 17, 2024: Major General Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, has expressed his deepest condolences on the tragic passing of Palestinian karate champion Nagham Abu Samrah. She was 24.

Nagham, who was critically injured in a missile strike in Gaza last month, died in hospital last Saturday. She lost a leg in the attack on December 18, which also killed her sister, and had been in a coma ever since.

POC President Rajoub, mourning the loss, said Nagham had played a significant role in promoting karate in Gaza and was a respected figure in Palestinian sports.

“She leaves a void with her dedicated efforts in fostering karate among girls in Gaza and her notable academic achievement,” said Rajoub, deeply saddened by the tragedy.

Nagham was crowned Palestinian karate champion in 2017.
