Lahore, Pakistan, January 14, 2024: The Pakistan Olympic Association has congratulated shooter Kishmala Talat for securing a berth at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“Let’s cheer for our star. Congratulations, Kishmala Talat, on your remarkable feat,” the POA posted on its Facebook page.
Talat became the first Pakistani woman to win a silver medal at the Asian Shooting Championship, when she bagged second place in the 10 metre women’s Air Pistol event in Jakarta, Indonesia last week.
This performance was enough for Talat, 21, to win an Olympic quota for Paris 2024. She is the third Pakistani shooter, and first female, to qualify for the Paris Games. The other two shooters are Gulfam Joseph and G.M. Bashir.
Talat was among 12 outstanding Pakistani athletes to receive the prestigious IOC Scholarship in 2022 in preparation for the Paris Olympics.
She had also won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol at last year’s Hangzhou Asian Games, winning Pakistan’s third medal - alongside a silver medal in team squash and a bronze in kabaddi.
In 2019, Talat bagged a silver medal at the 2019 South Asian Games in Kathmandu.
