Malaysia, Canada and Hong Kong, China to contest men’s one-day series in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China, January 10, 2024: Cricket fans are in for a treat as Canada, Malaysia and Hong Kong, China have announced a men’s one-day series set to take place in Hong Kong later this month.

 

This tournament will see Canada visiting Hong Kong for the first time and brings together three formidable teams looking to kick-start their various campaigns to qualify for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

 

The series is scheduled to take place from January 31 to February 5 with all matches at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. 

 

Each team will face off against the other once in a round-robin format, followed by a final between the top two teams on February 4. 

 

The third-place team will play a game against Hong Kong, China A on February 5, which will see a team of emerging players from Hong Kong vying to make their mark in international cricket.

 

The cricket boards of Canada, Malaysia and Hong Kong, China have collaborated to organise this series, highlighting the growing interest and development of cricket in these associations. 

 

Burji Shroff, Chair of Cricket Hong Kong, China, said: "We extend a warm invitation to cricket fans from around the world to watch and support this one-day series. We look forward to a showcase of top-class cricket talent, and to host Canada and Malaysia during their stay here in Hong Kong.”

 

Mohammed Iqbal Ali bin Kassim Ali, President of the Malaysia Cricket Association, said: “We are happy to continue our ongoing partnership with Cricket Hong Kong, China, and these games will be great preparation for our men’s team as they look forward to competing in the ICC World Cup Challenge League Qualifiers to be held in Malaysia in the second half of February.”

 

Rashpal Bajwa, Chair of Canada Cricket Association, added: “The one-day series would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the cricket boards of Canada, Malaysia and Hong Kong, China, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this event. 

 

“Their commitment to the growth and promotion of cricket in their respective countries has laid the foundation for this tournament, and we look forward to our first experience of playing in Hong Kong.”
