Nagoya, Japan, December 29, 2023: The organising committee for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 held a 1,000-day countdown ceremony on Sunday, December 24.
The ceremony took place at the Chubu Centrair International Airport and was a joint affair between Aichi prefecture, Nagoya city and organising committee AINAGOC under the theme “Love Aichi special collaboration”.
The festivities included the unveiling of the countdown board, speeches from leading government officials, Asian Games Talk with athletes and ambassadors and sports demonstrations.
The chief dignitaries were Hideaki Omura, Governor of Aichi Prefecture, and Takashi Kawamura, Mayor of Nagoya.
The 20th Asian Games will be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026 and will be the third Asian Games in Japan after Tokyo 1958 and Hiroshima 1994.
There will be 41 sports on the programme, comprised of 32 Olympic sports and nine additional sports representing the five zones of the OCA and two sports each chosen by the OCA and organising committee.
