Kazakhstan set to field athletes in five sports at Gangwon 2024

Astana, Kazakhstan, December 13, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting on Wednesday, December 13, to discuss preparations for the 4th Winter Youth Olympics Gangwon 2024.

 

The joint meeting, held in Astana, looked at the national team to participate at the first Winter YOG in Asia. The event will be held from January 19 to February 1 in Gangwon province, Korea.

 

According to the Kazakhstan NOC’s Department of Sports, 17 athletes have already qualified for the showpiece in five disciplines – biathlon, curling, speed skating, short track and ice hockey.

 

It was noted that national teams will continue to bid for qualifying berths. The qualification deadline is December 29. The NOC also thanked the government for its technical and material support for the Games.

 

A record 1,900 athletes are set to compete at the Games in seven sports. At the last Winter YOG, in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2020, a total of 1,788 athletes participated.
