Yamaguchi withdraws from badminton world tour finals in Hangzhou

Hangzhou, China, December 5, 2023: Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi has withdrawn from the HSBC Badminton World Federation World Tour Finals 2023 in Hangzhou, China.

 

Yamaguchi, the defending champion, is still recovering from injury and has been replaced in the competition by Kim Ga-eun of Korea.

 

The world tour finals will feature the top eight players/pairs in five categories – women’s and men’s singles, women’s and men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

 

Players and pairs are competing for a total prize pool of US$2.5 million – the richest ever in badminton.

 

The draw will be held during the annual HSBC BWF World Tour Finals Gala Dinner on Monday, December 11. The winners of the BWF Player of the Year Awards will also be announced on the same night.

 

The tournament will run from December 13-17 in the 19th Asian Games host city of Hangzhou.
