Heilongjiang Governor highlights benefits of hosting Asian Winter Games

Harbin, China, December 1, 2023: The Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Liang Huiling, believes the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin in 2025 will be an opportunity to promote the national image and international cultural exchange.

Speaking on a recent visit to the Yabuli Sports Training Base, the provincial governor said: “We should push forward the preparations for the Asian Winter Games with high standards and high quality by accelerating the renovation of competition venues and facilities to meet our goal of delivering a wonderful, complete, green and incorruptible Games, and make the Asian Winter Games an important window for displaying the national image and an important platform for promoting international cultural exchanges.”

Governor Liang, who is also Deputy Secretary of the CPC Heilongjiang Provincial Committee, made her tour on November 26. She inspected the renovation of venues and transportation infrastructure at the Yabuli Sports Training Base.

The comprehensive ski resort integrating competitive and tourist skiing in the Yabuli Sports Training Base is a national training base and has hosted many international snow events. 

By taking a cable car to the top of Daguokui Mountain, Governor Liang learned about the course setting and supporting facilities of alpine venues, ski mountaineering venues and slopestyle venues of the Asian Winter Games. 

She called in at the sports operations center, ski equipment hall, athletes’ apartments, gymnasiums, Antarctic Hotel and other AWG venues, and stressed the importance of adhering to international competition standards.

After inspecting the facilities and equipment in the Yabuli South Station such as the railway station hall, seats and security check system, Liang Huiling emphasized the importance of the reconstruction of transportation infrastructure, in line with the environment and the upgrading of supporting facilities of the railway station so as to continuously improve the overall image of the station and its surroundings.

She also spoke with athletes and coaches and said Yabuli was known as “the cradle of the growth of world ski champions”, while urging them to train hard and bring glory to the nation at the AWG.
