Harbin, China, November 30, 2023: Xu Qin, Secretary of the CPC Heilongjiang Provincial Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Congress, inspected the preparations for the 9th Asian Winter Games 2025 in Harbin on Monday, November 27.
He stressed that it was necessary to fully implement the instructions in Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech during his visit to Heilongjiang province and to continue to build a winter sports power.
Therefore, in the spirit of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, efficient and high-quality preparations should be made with high standards to ensure a simple, safe, green, incorruptible and wonderful sports event that highlights Asian diversity, Chinese style, Heilongjiang characteristics and Harbin charm, he said.
Ultimately, Harbin will impress the world as an ice city and retain the precious legacy of the Asian Winter Games, reflecting Heilongjiang’s responsibility in the construction of a sports power.
Xu Qin visited the Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Sports Center, the Heilongjiang Province Ice Training Base and the Harbin Ice Hockey Stadium, inspected and inquired about the renovation programme, functional layout and work progress of these venues.
He said that the organising committee should highlight the characteristics of winter games and learn from domestic and international experience in holding sports events in order to present a simple, pragmatic, efficient and professional AWG.
Additionally, warm and thoughtful hospitality should also be provided to make the event a success. It is necessary to adhere to the requirements of environmental protection when selecting sites and materials, to fully utilize technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5G to improve the functions of venues, and to construct excellent projects that are low-carbon, environmentally-friendly, safe, reliable, incorruptible and cost-effective.
Xu Qin pointed out that holding the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin was a glorious mission entrusted to Harbin and Heilongjiang province by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and that the AWG is an international Games of national significance.
