IOC approves Sanchez switch from Canada to Philippines for Paris 2024

Paris, France, November 29, 2023: The IOC Executive Board approved the change of nationalities for nine athletes ahead of the Paris Olympics.

They include swimmer Kayla Sanchez, who has switched from Canada to the Philippines, having represented the Philippines at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Kayla, 22, was born in Singapore to Filipino parents before moving to Canada. She represented Canada at the Tokyo Olympics and won two relay medals – a silver and a bronze.

The other changes include: 

Connor O’Leary – Surfing – from Australia to Japan 

The EB granted the requested exemption to the three-year waiting period following the prior agreement of the respective International Federations and National Olympic Committees concerned, in accordance with paragraph 2 of the Bye-law to Rule 41 of the Olympic Charter.

This was approved on the first day of the IOC EB three-day meeting in Paris on November 29.
