Astana, Kazakhstan, November 29, 2023: Three-time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion Alexander Karelin visited the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan where he met young and aspiring athletes earlier this month.
The legendary Russian wrestler, gold medallist in Greco-Roman (130 kilogram category) in 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta, gave an inspirational message to his young audience during his short visit to Astana.
“You have an excellent Kazakh wrestling school. Guys, don’t forget that only hard work on yourself will make you champions. If you were told to do 50 sets, do more, do 57. You will be stronger than your opponents. Together with strong coaches like yours, the future of Kazakh wrestling looks bright and full of new achievements,” Karelin said.
The meeting was also attended by Daulet Turlykhanov, a Member of the Kazakhstan Parliament and multiple champion of the Soviet Union.
The two guests discussed technical aspects of wrestling, as well as the physical and mental preparation necessary to achieve success in the sport. They also shared their rich knowledge and experience with the young athletes.
In conclusion, both Karelin and Turlykhanov wished the Kazakhstan NOC and the entire sports community in the country success and unity.
