Singapore emerge champions at 7th Asian Pencak Silat Championships in Dubai

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 23, 2023: Singapore emerged as champions at the 7th Asian Pencak Silat Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 9-12.

 

Singapore swept to the top of the medals standings in the 11-country competition winning a total of 21 medals, including 11 gold medals, five silvers, and five bronze.

 

Vietnam finished second, also with 21 medals – eight gold, three silver and 10 bronzes – while Malaysia placed third with 15 medals including seven gold medals, five silver and three bronze.

 

A total of 293 participants from all over Asia participated in the championships held under the mantle of the Asian Pencak Silat Federation and run under the rules of the International Pencak Silat Federation.

 

Other countries which competed at the Rashid Bin Hamdan Hall, Al Nasr Club, Dubai, were the Philippines, India, Iran, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and hosts United Arab Emirates.

 

It was the first time the UAE Pencak Silat Federation, which was set up in 2022, were organising this major international competition which is held annually.

 

“The organising team did a wonderful job and got a lot of positive feedback. Despite being the first-time host to a sport they established in 2022, the UAE Pencak Silat Federation, with guidance and support from the Asian governing body, did a great job,” said Dr. Sheikh Alau’ddin Bin Yacoob Marican, CEO of Asian Pencak Silat Federation and President of the International Federation.
