Qatar Olympic Committee celebrates country’s National Sports Day

Doha, Qatar, February 12, 2020: HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, participated in Team Qatar’s celebration on the occasion of National Sports Day at Barahat Msheireb on Tuesday, February 11.

Team Qatar’s Sports Village at Barahat Msheireb was well-equipped with all facilities and services and was turned into a home for sports activities and entertainment for all ages.

Citizens and residents from across the country came together and took part in athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, judo and karate.

Double world high jump champion and two-time Olympic medallist Mutaz Essa Barshim also participated along with other Team Qatar champions.

The event also saw the participation of other senior Qatar sports officials including Dr. Thani Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari, the Second Vice President of the QOC, Jassim Rashid Al Boenin, the QOC Secretary General, along with heads of National Sport Federations and directors of QOC departments.

Team Qatar celebrates the country’s National Sports Day annually under the theme of "Sport For Life" with the aim of promoting sport and physical education and to ensure sustainable development across the country.
