QOC President Sheikh Joaan tours World Aquatics Championships facilities

Doha, Qatar, November 21, 2023: HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of the local organising committee for World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024, made an inspection tour of the Aspire Dome facilities on Sunday, November 19.

 

Sheikh Joaan was accompanied by HE Salah bin Ghanem al-Ali, Minister of Sports and Youth, and Dr. Engineer Saad bin Ahmed Al-Mahndi, Chairman of the Public Works Board during the inspection tour.

 

The World Aquatics Championships will be staged from February 2-18 and will feature six different aquatic disciplines: swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving.

 

Around 2,600 athletes from 190 countries are expected to compete at the Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Centre, and the Old Doha Port facilities.

 

The Qatari capital is hosting the World Aquatics flagship event for the first time after successfully hosting multiple World Aquatics events over recent years, including the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25 metres) in 2014, nine editions of the FINA Swimming World Cup, four FINA Marathon Swim World Series events and a FINA Diving World Series event in 2009.
