Kuwait City, Kuwait, November 16, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia has announced that the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand have been rescheduled from February-March 2024 to later in the year.
In a letter sent to all Asian National Olympic Committees on Thursday, November 16, Acting OCA President Raja Randhir Singh informs that, following “prolonged discussions” with the NOC of Thailand and the Sports Authority of Thailand, the 6th AIMAG will be held after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The event had been postponed from November this year to February 24-March 6, 2024 at the OCA General Assembly in Bangkok on July 8. The exact dates of the rescheduled showpiece will be announced later.
“It was felt that the NOCs are preparing themselves for the Olympic Games in Paris and it will be difficult for the NOCs to allocate a budget for the 6th AIMAG. Moreover, most of the athletes are already in training camps for the Olympic Games, and it will be difficult for them to participate in the 6th AIMAG,” Randhir Singh wrote.
The Acting OCA President added: “It was therefore mutually agreed that the 6th AIMAG should be rescheduled to be held after the Paris Olympic Games. This will also provide the Organising Committee to better prepare for the Games. The exact dates will be finalised by the OCA Executive Board looking at the international sports calendar.”
The Paris Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
AIMAG 6 was originally due to take place in 2021, four years after AIMAG 5 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
