BWF confirms US$ 11.5 million prize money for world tour finals in Hangzhou

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 15, 2023: The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals will remain the richest badminton tournament in the world with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) committing US$11.5 million in prize money over the next four years.

The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals prize money will be:

2023: US$ 2.5 million

2024: US$ 2.5 million

2025: US$ 3.0 million

2026: US$ 3.5 million

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said the prize money injection was a significant boost for the entire badminton community.

“We are delighted to be able to confirm US$11.5 million over the next four years for what already is our signature finale to the HSBC BWF World Tour,” Lund said.

“This represents an overall greater commitment to our players and contributes to an enhanced world-class sports product that we seek.

“We are excited by the prospect of making Hangzhou the new home of the season-ending finals and can’t wait to see the world’s top stars fight it out for ultimate glory.”

Lund added that the allocation of World Ranking points for the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals, BWF World Championships, and Olympic Games had also increased.

The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2023 will be played at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium from December 13-17.

The top eight qualifiers from the HSBC Race To Finals rankings will be confirmed following the China Masters 2023.

Macau Returns

The Macau Open (Super 300) will return to the 31-tournament HSBC BWF Word Tour calendar from 2024-2026, taking the place of the New Zealand Open.

In March this year, Badminton New Zealand relinquished its hosting rights of the New Zealand Open (Super 300) for the remainder of the cycle.

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said Macau was the obvious candidate to take the vacant hosting position.

“The Macau Open has been a mainstay on the tour since 2006 and we’re excited to welcome them back in 2024,” Lund said.

“We have full confidence that the Badminton Federation of Macau will deliver a spectacular tournament over the next three years.”

The 2024 edition of the Macau Open will be played from 24-29 September. It was last staged in 2019.
