Maharashtra tops medal standings at 37th Indian National Games in Goa

Goa, India, November 13, 2023: An impressive 35 National Games records were broken at the 37th National Games in Goa which concluded in a colourful closing ceremony last Thursday, November 9.

                      

Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha and Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar were among the many dignitaries at the closing ceremony. The 35 new Games records all came from athletics, weightlifting and swimming.

 

A total of 1,880 medals were awarded to the winners including 555 gold medals, 546 silver and 779 bronze. More than 11,000 athletes competed across 42 sports over the 22 days of competition.

 

Maharashtra topped the medal standings winning 228 medals – 80 gold, 69 silver and 79 bronze – while Services Sports Control Board, who had dominated the National Games since 2007, came second with 126 medals

 

The next edition of the Games is set to be hosted in Uttarakhand.
