Macau, China NOC reports sad passing of popular President Charles Lo

Macau, China, November 10, 2023: The Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China is deeply saddened to report the demise of its President, Mr. Charles Lo.

Mr. Lo, who was Chair of the OCA Media Committee from 2011 to 2023, passed away on October 7. He was 79.

In a letter dated November 10 to the Acting OCA President, Raja Randhir Singh, the Secretary General of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, Mr. Andrew Chan Chak Mo, reported the news with “profound sadness”. 

“Mr. Charles Lo, a much-respected figure in the sports community, left us on October 7th, 2023, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of dedication and service to the Olympic movement,” Mr. Chan said.

“During his tenure, Mr. Lo played a pivotal role in enhancing the development of sports in Macau, and worked tirelessly to promote the Olympic movement and values. His dedication and passion have inspired athletes, officials and sports enthusiasts alike.

“Mr. Charles Lo’s sudden demise is a loss not only for the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China but also for the wider Olympic family. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues and we share in their grief during this difficult time.”

The Acting President of the OCA, Raja Randhir Singh, commented: “It is terrible news to hear of the sad passing of our good friend and colleague, Mr. Charles Lo.

“He served as Chairman of the OCA Media Committee for three terms, from 2011 to 2023, and he was a popular and well-respected member of the OCA Executive Board.

“As Chair of the OCA Media Committee, Mr. Lo oversaw the transformation of the OCA content platforms from the more traditional media to social and digital media, and made it his aim for the OCA games to provide the best standards of media operations and services as possible for our Asian media.

“His passing is a great loss to the Olympic movement in Macau, China, in East Asia and throughout the Asian continent.

“Mr. Charles Lo will be deeply missed around the OCA circuit. He will always be remembered for his cheery personality, his friendship and his generosity. The OCA expresses its deepest condolences to the family of our dear Mr. Charles Lo at this sad time.”
