Doha, Qatar, November 6, 2023: Thailand won the men’s title while the United Arab Emirates won the women’s crown at the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy which concluded on Sunday, November 5, in Doha.
Both the Thailand men’s team and the UAE women’s team qualify for the prestigious 2024 Asia Rugby Sevens Series.
Thailand defeated Bahrain 17-5 in the men’s final while the UAE beat India 26-5 to claim the women’s title. Kazakhstan finished third in the men’s competition and Iran grabbed third place in the women’s event.
A total of 22 teams from 17 countries – with 264 men and women players - competed in the three-day tournament at the Onazia Pitch in Doha, Qatar.
Thailand and UAE will now join the top tier teams in Asia at the annual Asia Rugby Sevens Series next year. Japan are the defending champions in both men's and women's events.
