Japan qualifies for Paris Olympics in men’s handball

Doha, Qatar, October 28, 2023: Japan’s men’s handball team has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by beating Bahrain 32-29 in the final of the Asian qualifying competition in Doha on Saturday, October 28.

 

Korea finished third by defeating Qatar 38-32 in the play-off for the bronze medals.

 

Japan reached the final with a 34-23 victory over Korea in the semi-finals, while Bahrain beat Qatar 30-29 in the other semi-final.

 

Iran finished fifth after a 30-28 success over Saudi Arabia in the play-off for fifth and sixth places, while Kuwait defeated the United Arab Emirates 31-26 to come seventh. China beat Kazakhstan 44-22 to finish ninth.

 

The Asian Handball Federation's qualifying tournament ran from October 18-28. 

 

Meanwhile, the AHF has announced that the 21st Asian Men’s Championship will be held in Bahrain from January 11-22, 2024 and will also serve as a qualifier for the World Championship in 2025. The draw will take place in Manama on November 10.
