Sri Lanka NOC felicitates Hangzhou Asian Games medal winners

Colombo, Sri Lanka, October 25, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka held a felicitation ceremony for medal winners at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on Monday, October 23.

 

In a ceremony held at the NOC’s headquarters in Colombo, Team Sri Lanka, led by Chef de Mission Nishanthe Indunil Piyasena, were warmly congratulated for bringing honour to the island nation by winning the most number of medals at the Asian Games since Busan 2002.

 

Sri Lanka won five medals in Hangzhou, comprised of one gold medal, two silver and two bronze medals. The island nation was ranked 26th in the overall medal standings.

 

The gold was won by 18-year-old Tharushi Dissanayaka in the women’s 800 metres while the two silver medals came in women’s cricket and women’s javelin where Dilhani Lekamge set a national record of 61.57m. The two bronze medals came in the relay events in athletics – men’s 4x400m and women’s 4x400m.

 

Sri Lanka NOC also thanked its sponsors for backing the team – kit sponsor DSI Samson Group, clothing partner Lovi, and media partner Mora Spirit.

 

Present at the ceremony was NOC Secretary General Maxwell de Silva and other top officials.
