Hangzhou, China, October 4, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Laos is mourning the passing of a member of the headquarters staff in the Athletes’ Village of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Mr. Phoutdamone Chanthalasy, 46, was a former sports reporter and was working for the Lao contingent to provide daily reports and results of Lao athletes in the Asian Games. He was married with two children.
“He died due to a sudden illness,” said a statement from NOC Laos. “OCA, HAGOC, NOC Laos, his colleagues and Iran medical team tried to save his life to the best of their abilities, but could not save his life.”
The time of death was recorded as 1.30pm on Saturday, September 30.
“The death of Mr. Phoutdamone Chanthalasy has caused us to lose a well-known and experienced sports reporter expert. The loss of a good friend and good father bring sadness and regret to the organisation, family, children and relatives, friends," the statement added.
“The organisation and staff of the Ministry of Education and Sports, along with all sports federation members, remember your good deeds and work forever. His name will be firmly embedded in our memories forever.”
A funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon and attended by OCA Acting Director General Vinod Kumar Tiwari, OCA Hon. Life Vice President Wei Jizhong, members of NOC Laos and other SEA region NOCs, and HAGOC representatives.
