Hangzhou, China, October 2, 2023: The Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, Ng Ser Miang, has described the gold and silver medals for track star Shanti Pereira as “proud moments” for Singapore.
Pereira, 27, won Singapore’s first gold medal in the Asian Games athletics competition since 1974 when she raced home in the women’s 200 metres at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre on Monday evening.
The gold medal followed her silver medal in the women’s 100 metres on Saturday, September 30, and elevated her into the Singapore sports history books.
IOC Vice President Ng, from Singapore, posted on Facebook: “Heartiest congratulations to Shanti Pereira for winning the women 200m gold and women 100m silver at the Hangzhou Asian Games!!!
“What a privilege to present both medals to her. These are proud moments for Singapore.😀🇸🇬”
Mr Ng is also Chair of the OCA Advisory Committee and a member of the OCA Executive Board.
Pereira, meanwhile, will go again on Tuesday evening in the women’s 4 x 100m final.
