Hangzhou, China, October 1, 2023In a time when Afghanistan lives under the rule of the Taliban, an entity that imposes significant restrictions on women's rights and freedoms, Afghan women have shone in the realm of sports by participating for the first time in the sport of  Volleyball in the Asian Games.

This achievement is not merely a sporting accomplishment but also reflects the strength and determination of Afghan women in continuing their struggle for their rights and freedoms.

Despite the challenges posed by the current circumstances and the restrictions imposed by the Taliban, Afghan women have chosen to make history through their participation in this sporting championship. This step signifies a significant challenge to those restrictions and affirms the right of women to engage in sports and participate in international sporting events.

As I watched the match, I couldn't help but think about the strength and bravery of these young women. They decided to confront obstacles and demonstrate to the world that strong will and passion can defy any constraints.

Their participation in Volleyball for the first time was a triumph in itself. They represent a symbol of hope and inspiration for other girls in Afghanistan who endure discrimination and limitations. Their presence was not merely a sports participation; it conveyed a powerful message expressing their courage.

The participation of Afghan women in Volleyball at the Asian Games is also an opportunity to express international solidarity with women's rights and girls in Afghanistan. The international community should continue to support Afghan women in their quest for equality and freedom, using sports as a

means of communication and expression of shared human values.

They have become role models for youth in Afghanistan, Asia, and the world. Their participation is a

reminder of the importance of promoting women's and girls' rights and empowering them worldwide.

Salute to the brave Afghan girls who prove that determination and passion can overcome any challenge, and that sports symbolize freedom and liberation regardless of the difficult circumstances.
