OCA, Alibaba Cloud launch fascinating exhibition of China’s Asian Games debut at Tehran in 1974

Hangzhou, China, September 28, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia and OCA Official Library, in partnership with Alibaba Cloud, is hosting a fascinating exhibition of China’s Asian Games debut - Tehran 1974 - at the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum.

The OCA’s Acting President, Raja Randhir Singh; OCA Vice President and Chair of the OCA Sports Committee, Song Luzeng; OCA Vice President Lt. Gen. Syed Arif Hasan; Executive Secretary General of HAGOC and Hangzhou Vice Mayor Chen Weiqiang attended the opening ceremony, along with representatives from the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees and other OCA family members, athletes and media. The attendees were able to watch historical footage of China taking part in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran.

In 1974, the People’s Republic of China made its inaugural participation in the Asian Games. Chinese athletes delivered an impressive debut at this significant Asian sports gathering. The shooter, Su Zhibo, earned the distinction of being China's first gold medalist in the history of the Asian Games. During the opening ceremony, Su Zhibo graciously donated a commemorative plaque from the Tehran Asian Games to the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum.

This exclusive exhibition marks the first public showcase of artifacts from the 1974 Tehran Asian Games. It also features historical images and photographs capturing the People’s Republic of China’s premiere on the Asian Games platform. 

Restored and colourized using Alibaba Cloud's AIGC technology, these images vividly portray the splendour of the Tehran Asian Games opening ceremony and the exemplary performances of the athletes. 

The restored footage invites viewers to revisit the history of the Asian Games and immerse themselves in the spirit of sportsmanship.
