Hangzhou, China, September 27, 2023: When we talk about the Asian Games, we usually recall the astonishing sports moments and fierce competitions that take place in this global event.

However, there is another story waiting to be told - the story of Palestine's presence in this grand sporting arena. It's a story of determination and challenge, a portrayal of hope for existence and excellence on the world stage.

Palestine, a land celebrated for its rich history and deep culture, has a longstanding presence in the world of sports. Nevertheless, official representation in the Olympic Games was a goal achieved only in recent decades (1996). Realizing the dream of participating in the Asian Games was a significant challenge for Palestinians, but they finally achieved this dream in 1990, standing alongside other nations in this remarkable sporting event.

Despite the significant challenges that Palestine faces in the realm of sports, their participation in the Asian Games reflects their determination and perseverance in the face of adversity. It sends a reminder to the world that sports transcend geographical and political boundaries, and that every nation has the right to representation and excellence.

Dr. Bader Aqel, the head of the medical team of the Palestinian mission, reflects on their experience within the Asian Games Village in Hangzhou.

"Our experience within the Olympic Village during the Asian Games in China is a unique and exceptional one. Palestinians have participated in various events in different countries, but the level of preparation for this tournament exceeded all expectations. The Olympic Village provides athletes with everything they need in various aspects of life," he said.

"The city of Hangzhou ensured a very high level of quality and efficiency in the services. We, in the Palestinian Olympic Committee, are very pleased that this experience was under Chinese organization. As a Palestinian delegation, we testify that this edition of the Asian Games is one of the best in terms of management and precise attention to every detail."

Note: Palestine (PLE) was recognised by the IOC in 1993 and first competed in the Olympic Games in 1996. PLE joined the Asian Games for the first time at Beijing 1990.
