Greta Thunberg invited to attend inaugural International Youth Green Games in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, February 5, 2020: The President of Mongolia, Khaltmaagiin Battulga, met with climate change activist Greta Thunberg during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last month and invited her to attend the International Youth Green Games in Mongolia.

The inaugural Green Games - held under the auspices of UNESCO, the Government of Mongolia, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO and the National Olympic Committee of Mongolia - will be held to promote youth voices against climate change through sport.

They will take place from September 13-19, 2020, in Ulaanbaatar.

Mongolia, as hosts of the Green Games, fully supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals with the aim of making eco-friendly choices, raise awareness of the importance of preserving green spaces and educate young people through their participation.

The Games are planned to be held with 19 sports for people under the age of 18 from 195 member states of the United Nations.

It was also announced this week that medals at the Green Games will be made from recycled materials.
