Syrian wrestlers aim for honours at Asian Championships in New Delhi

Damascus, Syria, February 5, 2020: The Syrian Arab Wrestling Federation will send two athletes to participate in the 2020 Senior Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi later this month.

Omar Sarim and Abdul Karim Al-Hassan will travel to the Indian capital for the Asian wrestling showpiece which will be held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex from February 18-23. The two wrestlers will be accompanied by coach Firas Al-Rifai.

In preparation for the Asian Championships, Sarim and Al-Hassan are training with the rest of the national team. Sarim has won gold medals at the Mediterranean Championships and Arab Championships while Al-Hassan has claimed silver medals in these events.

The Asian Championships are a build-up to the Asian Olympic qualifiers which were due to be staged in Xian, China from March 27-29, but now face the possibility of being shifted to another country due to the coronavirus outbreak in China.
