Hangzhou, China, September 24, 2023: The Acting President of the OCA, Raja Randhir Singh, described the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games as “wonderful” during a press conference at the Main Media Centre on Sunday.
“We would like to congratulate the organising committee, the state and the government of China for the wonderful opening ceremony,” he said.
“I would especially like to thank his excellency, President XI Jinping, for having come to the opening ceremony. Also, for being there with us and making it all possible.
“It was a spectacular ceremony, and we have been to many. This is one of the finest and the most beautiful opening ceremonies we have seen.”
Regarding the athletes, Raja Randhir added: “The athletes were very happy with the opening ceremony. Here it was perfectly done. They came in, they sat, they walked through.
“The system of bringing two different teams, from two sides, and walking up into the stands was brilliant. It was very well appreciated by the athletes.
“I know that first-hand because my daughter, Rajeshwari KUMARI (IND), is part of the Indian contingent.”
Raja Randhir concluded: “We are looking forward to a great Games, and the next 15 days. This is going to be a great and successful Games.”
