Boxer Mary Kom and 11 others included in India’s TOPS for Tokyo 2020

New Delhi, India, September 12, 2019: The Sports Authority of India has included 10 boxers, a shooter and a badminton player in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The boxers include Mary Kom, 51kg category, Sonia Chahal, 57kg, Neeraj, 57kg, Nikhat Zareen, 51kg, Lovlina Borgohain, 69kg; and Amit Panghal, 52kg,

Kavinder Singh Bisht, 57kg, Vikas Krishan, 75kg, Shiva Thapa, 63kg, and Manish Kaushik, 63kg.

India has won two Olympic medals in boxing – Vijender Singh won the bronze in the 2008 Beijing Games and Mary Kom also won a bronze in 2012 London.

Apart from the boxers, 22-year-old women’s 10m air pistol shooter Yashaswini Singh Deswal and badminton star Sai Praneeth were also included in TOPS.

Deswal recently won a gold medal in the individual event at the ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro which also earned India an Olympic quota in this event.
