Vietnam Olympic Committee puts athletes first with career transition seminar

Da Nang, Vietnam, September 13, 2023: The Vietnam Olympic Committee and Da Nang National Sports Training Centre held a career orientation seminar for athletes on September 8.

The aim of the seminar was to assist and guide athletes in the transition from the sports field to the work place and to support the retired athlete to find employment and income.

The seminar also provided life skills to the athletes such as business acumen, entrepreneurial information and knowledge to give them the confidence, initiative and creativity to find their own job after retiring from elite sport.

More than 100 athletes and coaches from national teams and youth teams, as well as experts in sports economics, employment consulting, business and other fields, attended the seminar. 

The presenters included Mr. Tran Van Manh, General Secretary of Vietnam Olympic Committee; Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao, Deputy Director of Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and Mr. Duong Manh Thang, Vice Principal of Da Nang Sports University.

There was also input from the Korean Consulate in Da Nang, a representative of the Laos-Vietnam Committee Office in Da Nang city and from sports training centers in Gia Lai and Quang Nam provinces.

The topics related to career guidance included sports economics, employment opportunities for athletes, entrepreneurship, the training programme for talented athletes at Da Nang Sports University, recruitment of staff and practical training.

In particular, athletes had an opportunity to share experience with famous former football player Cong Vinh and fitness expert Nguyen Hang, both of whom had very successful startups after their athletic careers.

This seminar was supported by the Olympic Council of Asia. It will be of far-reaching significance and value and will have a profound impact at home and abroad.
