Kuwait City, Kuwait, September 6, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia and its Anti-Doping Department will hold a webinar on September 11 on the Prevention of Doping for Athlete Support Personnel leading into the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
In a letter to all 45 Asian National Olympic Committees on Tuesday, September 6, Acting OCA Director General Vinod Tiwari explained the reasons behind the webinar.
“The webinar will have curated programmes to ensure that all athletes and athlete support personnel (ASP) like coaches and physiotherapists are well equipped with the knowledge, as well as their roles and responsibilities in relation to anti-doping,” Mr. Tiwari wrote.
Tiwari continued: “The OCA has taken the stand that all athletes competing at the Hangzhou Asian Games have completed the ADEL (Anti-Doping Education and Learning) or other equivalent programmes that have been recognised by the OCA.
“In addition the OCA encourages ASP to complete the e-learning module tailor-made for them. It is heartening to see many ASP have completed the module. However, the ASP module has yet to be translated into many Asian languages, unlike the module for athletes.
“With a view to supporting this outcome when we are just a few weeks away from the Asian Games, the OCA has decided to bring you a webinar for ASP that covers various elements of anti-doping that ASP ought to know under the Code,” Tiwari added.
The webinar will commence on September 11 at 10am Kuwait time (GMT+3) and the OCA has requested all National Olympic Committees to register their ASP on https://ocasia.com.
The OCA has also asked NOCs to pass on the link to National Federations.
