Male, Maldives, September 4, 2023: Proud sports fans in the Maldives are congratulating their national team athletes for winning a record number of medals at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Madagascar.
The Maldives finished the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games with 28 medals, comprised of five gold, nine silver and 14 bronze.
“28 medals, 1 historic moment!” Maldives Olympic Committee posted.

The MOC Facebook post attracted hundreds of Likes and comments such as: “Congratulations to all the athletes. This is a great start…and good luck for the future”, “It’s a proud moment for the nation; it’s a sign of the growth of the nation”, “This is awesome. Keep up the good work girls and boys. Way to go” and “Congratulations Maldives for the athletes and the Nation. Great moments”.
The success of the team was also down to the support of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.
