Astana, Kazakhstan, August 31, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Olympic Movement in Kazakhstan.

The celebrations began last week and will continue for over 30 days in all regions of the country, ending with the anniversary session of the NOC in Astana.

“We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Olympic Movement in Kazakhstan, and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our common victories,” said Timur Kulibayev, NOC President.

“The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the same age as the independence of Kazakhstan. A tremendous amount of work has been done over 30 years, and today the NOC is an important member of the international sports community and a reliable partner of world sports organisations,” President Kulibayev added.

As part of the visits to the regions, veterans and distinguished athletes will be honoured and commemorative medals awarded.

On Wednesday, August 30, the 30th Anniversary celebrations took place in the East Kazakhstan region with its most famous athlete, track and field star Olga Rypakova, in attendance.

The London 2012 Olympics gold medallist and Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medallist – both in the women’s triple jump event – congratulated all those present at the ceremony and wished her fellow-athletes good luck at the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Rypakova, 38, who retired in February this year, also won four gold medals at the Asian Games – 2006 Doha in heptathlon, and then dominated the triple jump at the 2010 Guangzhou, 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta and Palembang Games.

Medals and diplomas were also awarded to honoured coaches from the region.
