Thimphu, Bhutan, August 22, 2023: The Bhutan Olympic Committee held its 24th Executive Committee meeting last week which was chaired by BOC President HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck.

In his opening address, Prince Jigyel stressed the importance of sports leaders embracing best practices and good governance, and for sports bodies to improve communication and accountability.

The BOC Executive Committee established a Sub Committee which will be responsible for evaluating and prioritising various infrastructure projects that are proposed to be included under the 13th Five-Year Plan. The primary objective behind this decision was to ensure the BOC and the government’s investments in sports yield optimal returns.

The Sub Committee was also instructed to review the governance systems in national federations and associations, and strengthen communication among all members, so that sports bodies could fulfil their mandates effectively and efficiently.

The Executive Committee also reviewed the recommendations from the IOC regarding the BOC constitution. The ExCo advised the endorsement of three of the five recommendations, and this will be forwarded to the General Assembly members for final approval.

Among other decisions taken was a move to encourage increased participation from the private sector and that the BOC work with the Ministry of Education and local governments to enhance sports in schools and the community.
