Kazakhstan NOC President checks Tokyo 2020 preparations

Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, January 31, 2020: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Timur Kulibayev, held a meeting with heads of NOC departments regarding preparations for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Exactly 178 days before the start of the Olympics on July 24, departments and services of the NOC reported on the intermediate results of their work.

A special committee was created last year and operates at the NOC Kazakhstan. The committee monitors the training process of athletes and is in contact with the head coaches of the national teams on a daily basis.

“All planned events in preparation for the Olympic Games are being held according to the schedule; none of them were disrupted. All conditions for the training are established for all teams,” reported the Director of the Sports Department, Yelsiyar Kanagatov.

In addition to the main issues of preparation for Tokyo 2020, the NOC President instructed the sports department to analyze the results of the recent Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, where Kazakhstan left without a medal.

Other topics included the fight for clean sport, zero tolerance in doping, medical care and nutrition for athletes, the role of the modern sports medical center "ProSport" in Almaty, accountability and transparency, prevention of corruption and finance auditing.

“There is not much time left before Tokyo 2020. The crucial period has come not only for our athletes who are fighting for Olympic licenses but also for all those involved in the preparation of the Kazakhstan national team,” said Kulibayev.

“A lot depends precisely on those who work in the NOC: in the sports field, in international relations, anti-doping and other issues that require our daily attention. The success of our athletes depends on our well-coordinated work.”

To date, Kazakhstan holds 27 Olympic licenses in 14 sports.
