Hong Kong, China, August 9, 2023: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee (SF&OC) of Hong Kong, China began a four-day visit to Nansha and Guangzhou on Tuesday, August 8.
The trip is part of the 2023/24 SF&OC Greater Bay Area (GBA) Youth Sports Exchange Programme which is being held in conjunction with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the HKSAR Government and with the support of the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province and its associated organisations.
The delegation, led by SF&OC Honorary Deputy Secretary General Mr. Wong Po Kee, comprises 80 members including young athletes, coaches and team leaders from archery, handball and beach volleyball. They will take part in sports exchange activities, joint training sessions and friendly matches alongside athletes from the Guangdong Province.
Mr. Wong said: “The Exchange Programme provides an excellent opportunity for Hong Kong’s young athletes and sports coaches to gain a better understanding of the sports development and infrastructure of the cities of the Greater Bay Area and to learn about the local lifestyle and culture.
“Our efforts have borne fruit from the past activities of the programme by opening up new collaboration opportunities and connections between the National Sports Associations in Hong Kong and sports organisations in mainland cities.
“In the future, we will continue to visit different cities to strengthen the exchanges and cooperations between the sports sectors of Hong Kong and Guangdong, and work together to raise the competitiveness and standards of our athletes.”
In addition to sports exchanges, the delegation will visit different sports facilities in Nansha on the third day such as Nansha International Tennis Center and Nansha Marina to understand the facilities required for large-scale sports games.
On the fourth day, the delegation will visit the Opium War Museum in Humen to cultivate a sense of national identity and patriotism through learning about the history of the Motherland.
The 2023/24 SF&OC Greater Bay Area Youth Sports Exchange Programme will arrange its next visit in December 2023 to Dongguan and Shunde.
