Tashkent, Uzbekistan, August 5, 2023: Student athletes at the OCA/IIHF U16 Asian Ice Hockey Youth Camp were informed of the Olympic Council of Asia’s hotline for reporting match-fixing on Saturday, August 5.
During a short and snappy presentation of the International Ice Hockey Federation Integrity workshop, the OCA’s Tony Tarraf took the opportunity to press home the work being done behind the scenes to battle the scourge of competition manipulation, or match-fixing.
Speaking on the topic of Competition Manipulation, Tarraf, who is the OCA Head of Athletes Development and Special Projects, told the audience comprising student athletes, game officials and coaches that a dedicated hotline had been set up to report match-fixing.
“The OCA has created its own reporting mechanism where in strict confidentiality athletes or anyone else can report match fixing. The hotline is reportmanipulation@ocasia.org,” Tarraf disclosed.
“This is the third pillar in the OCA code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions. The first one involves the regulations and legislations, pillar two is about raising awareness and education, and the last one is on monitoring, intelligence and investigations.
“For Pillar 3 we have created a way for anyone who knows or has been approached can inform us in strict privacy,” Tarraf said.
The workshop also heard presentations from IIHF Integrity Officer Naomi Bloetjes on the topics of anti-doping and harassment and abuse.
Bloetjes used several video slides of recent cases in international ice hockey to illustrate her presentation.
