Hangzhou, China, July 26, 2023: The complexities of organising such a massive international multi-sport event as the Asian Games have been outlined by one of China’s leading sports officials.
Yang Shu’an, Vice President of both the Chinese Olympic Committee and Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, said that teamwork was even more important than ever in order to ensure the smooth running of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
“This time, the Hangzhou Games will be the largest ever in Asian Games history,” Mr. Yang told the Technical Delegates Conference in Hangzhou on Wednesday.
“After the ending of the entries, we have had already more than 12,000 athletes. Frankly speaking, it is not easy to stage such a big multi-sport event. It is not easy - but the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, under the strong leadership of the Chinese national government, provincial government and city government, have done a great job to deliver fantastic venues for the athletes.”
Mr. Yang stressed: “For a successful Asian Games we need joint work. Like the Olympic Movement we need a different pillar to support us – and you, the Asian Sports Federations, are playing a very important role. You have offered your great technical support, so I encourage you to manage the games for each specific sports event.”
He concluded: “I think we can deliver a fantastic Asian Games for the whole of Asia and the whole world. With our joint work we can deliver a simple, safe and successful Asian Games. It will be a very big showcase for our Asian sports family, our Games and our ambitions to promote sport.”
