Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, July 22, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia reports that Bertrand Rhodict Lises has made history by becoming the first Malaysian athlete to secure a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Bertrand, 18, secured his place in Paris 2024 after finishing 10th in the semifinal of the diving men's 10m platform at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan on Friday, July 21. Only the top 12 in the individual event qualified for the next Olympics – and Paris 2024 will be the first Olympic appearance for Bertrand.

"Congratulations to Bertrand and we wish him the very best in his preparation ahead for Paris 2024. We are optimistic that many more athletes will qualify within the stipulated period," said Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr). Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.

Bertrand scored 420.70 points for his six dives to finish 10th in the semifinal on Friday and qualify for Saturday’s final.
