Fukuoka, Japan, July 20, 2023: China’s Wang Zongyuan won his second gold medal of the World Aquatics Championships 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan on Thursday when he claimed the men's 3-meter springboard title.
The 21-year-old Wang, who won three gold medals in last year's Budapest worlds, scored 538.10 points in six dives, 30.60 more than second-placed Osamar Olvera Ibarra, 19, of Mexico with 507.50.
Long Daoyi, 20, also from China, took bronze in 499.75, 38.35 behind his team mate.
It was Wang's second gold of the meet following his victory in the men’s 3m synchro with Long, and China's 10th in diving and 11th overall at the Fukuoka worlds.
The diving powerhouse looks even more likely to repeat their feat last year when they swept all 13 gold medals in Budapest.
In artistic swimming, China earned silver and Japan bronze in the women’s duet behind Austria’s Anna-Maria Alexandri and Eirini-Marina Alexandri, two of 25-year-old triplets born in Athens, Greece.
The two sisters won gold with 255.4583 points comprised of 91.10 for artistic impression and 164.3583 on a routine with a total difficulty of 41.05.
China’s Wang Liuyi and her younger twin sister Wang Qianyi, 26, came second on 255.2480 – just 0.2103 points behind – and Japan’s Moe Higa, 15, and Mashiro Yasunaga, 24, finished third with 249.5167 points, 5.9416 behind the champions.
China ended the seventh day of the July 14-30 world championships on top of the medal rankings with 11 gold, three silver and three bronze for 17 total medals, while Japan are second with 4-0-3. Germany are third with 4-0-2.
