Palestine Olympic Committee commences week-long Olympic Day 2023 celebrations

Jerusalem, Palestine, July 19, 2023: The President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, Gen. Jibril Rajoub, will be at the forefront of Olympic Day celebrations which commence on Wednesday, July 19.

The week-long celebrations, culminating on July 25, will be held in Jerusalem and the Northern and Southern Provinces with various sporting, cultural and recreational events taking place.

The Palestine Olympic Committee has gone to great lengths to organise Olympic Day 2023 and has engaged all sports federations as well as the community in a bid to reinforce the values of sports in society.

The celebrations will kick off with a sports scout march on Gaza beach where the Olympic torch will also be lit. Over the next few days, a sailing, rowing and skating carnival will be held on Gaza beach.

Olympic Day events in the Northern and Southern Governorates will commence on Sunday, July 23, and the starting point will be in front of the shrine of Yasser Arafat. A ‘Palestine Without Drugs’ race organised by the Police Union in cooperation with the Palestine Athletics Federation, a wushu demonstration and a cycle race are all part of the programme.

Olympic Week concludes on Tuesday, July 25 at the headquarters of the POC for the Southern Governorate. The POC has called on all athletes from all sports to participate in the week-long celebrations.
