Kuwait City, Kuwait, July 18, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia has counselled all athletes in Asia to be mindful of the dangers of taking medication that can be on the prohibited list of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The OCA’s Doping Control Department in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 18, reminded all National Olympic Committees in the region to tell its athletes to be aware of taking medication that may contain prohibited substances.
With the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou around the corner – September 23 to October 8 – the Kuwait City-based OCA Doping Control Department wrote: “Athletes, if you are taking any medication, either prescribed or over-the-counter, do note that the ingredients in the medication can be on the WADA prohibited list.”
Athletes were advised to inform their doctor that they are subject to doping control tests. They were also recommended to do a check on the Global DRO website – https://globaldro.com/Home - if the medication has prohibited substances.
Global DRO provides athletes and support personnel with information about the prohibited status of specific substances based on the current WADA Prohibited List.
The OCA also recommended checking with the doctor if a TUE – Therapeutic Use Exemption – needs to be applied.
