China adds artistic swimming acrobatic gold to diving collection

Fukuoka, Japan, July 17, 2023: China ended the fourth day of the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka with eight gold medals thanks to further success in the diving pool and a first gold of the meet in artistic swimming.

China won a sixth diving gold in six events through Chang Yani, 21, and Chen Yiwen, 24, in the women’s 3m synchro.

Their score of 341.94 was 45.36 points clear of second-placed Great Britain as Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper totalled 296.58.

Italy’s Chiara Pellacani and Elena Bertocchi won the bronze with 285.99.

China’s seventh diving gold came in the men’s 10m synchro thanks to Lian Junjie, 22, and Yang Hao, 25 with a score of 477.75 – 38.43 points clear of Ukrainian teens Oleksii Sereda, 17, and Kirill Boliukh, 16, on 439.32.

Mexico’s Kevin Berlin Reyes and Randal Willars Valdez won the bronze medal with a score of 434.16points.

Korea’s Yi Jaegyeong and Kim Yeongtaek finished 10th with 347.88 points and Malaysia’s Enrique Harold and Bertrand Rhodict Anak Lises came 12th with 310.44.

China added a gold medal to their Fukuoka tally in the acrobatic event of artistic swimming with a score of 238.0033 comprised of 91.25 for artistic impression and 146.7533 for execution on a routine with a total difficulty of 20.9500.

The United States finished second with 232.4033, just 5.60 points behind China, and Japan won the bronze medals with a score of 220.5867 (90.70+129.8867).

China’s eight-strong team was Chang Hao (26), Cheng Wentao (25), Feng Yu (23), Shi Haoyu (21), Wang Ciyue (23), Xiang Binxuan (21), Xiao Yanning (25) and Zhang Yayi (26).

Japan’s bronze medal-winners were: Moka Fujii (18), Ikoi Hirota (19), Moeka Kijima (23), Tomoka Sato (21), Yotaro Sato (18), Hikari Suzuki (20), Akane Yanagisawa (24) and Megumu Yoshida (28).

China ended the fourth day of the July 14-30 world championships with a clear lead of eight gold, one silver and two bronze, ahead of second-placed Japan on 3-0-2. Germany (2-0-1) was third.
