Tashkent, Uzbekistan, July 12, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan celebrated Olympic Day and Youth Day 2023 on June 25 in the capital Tashkent and five other cities across the country with more than 60,000 participants being involved in the festivities.
Olympic Day Run was held in the cities of Fergana, Namangan, Bukhara, Samarkand and Nukus with participants running distances of one mile and three kilometres. In the capital Tashkent, an additional 10km event was also held. The motto of the day was the Olympic hashtag #letsmove aimed to encourage youth to participate in sports activities.
In Tashkent, the opening ceremony was attended by the heads of the Security Council and the Cabinet of Ministers under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.
Guests heard a speech from the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, congratulating all participants for taking part in Olympic Day 2023.
In addition to local communities, athletes from neighbouring countries such as Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as representatives of the Diplomatic Corps in Uzbekistan, took part in the celebrations.
Olympic Day was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, the Uzbekistan NOC, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Mayors of all the cities.
