Tehran, Iran, July 11, 2023: The Women and Sport Commission of the Iran National Olympic Committee held its sixth meeting under the auspices of Dr. Mahin Farhadizad, Chair and NOC Vice President, last week.

The Women and Sport Commission discussed four main topics on the agenda: the National Sport Olympic and Paralympic Museum; the increasing number of female athletes in successive Asian Games; honouring veteran female athletes; and cultural issues at the Hangzhou Asian Games with the focus on female athletes.

Dr. Hayedah Seirafi, Director of the National Sports Museum, briefed the Commission on the history of sports in Iran and presented a report of old sports documents which highlighted the long history. It was decided that training courses to introduce the history of sport in Iran should be held by the Museum.

Regarding the increase in the number of female athletes in successive editions of the Asian Games, it was also noted that women were participating in more sports. Iran is expected to take part in 30 of the 40 sports at the Hangzhou Asian Games from September 23 to October 8.

On honouring veteran female athletes, it was decided to have a set of 11 requirements which an athlete needed to meet to be eligible for this accolade.

Lastly, the meeting examined the various cultural activities which will be on show in Hangzhou with special emphasis on female athletes.
